Hello all, we just had a new baby and I am recording several Gigs of data a day. I have a Canon HD camcorder that records in MXF format. When I try to “import” the XF105 MXF footage into FCPX, I have issue, sometimes the playback is influent. Is there any solution to solve my issue? Is there a way for me to edit Canon XF105 MXF in FCPX smoothly without rendering and other problem? Some have suggested me only convert my MXF footage to ProRes for FCPX, is that my only option? Please help me, thanks!
Canon’s XF105 HD Professional Camcorder is a compact, fully featured handheld video camera that imports nearly all the features and functionality of the 3-chip XF305 into a smaller, single sensor form factor. Its 1/3″ CMOS sensor and DIGIC DV III image processor combine to support 1920 x 1080 resolution video at 24p, 30p, or 60i, which is recorded to Compact Flash cards using Canon’s XF Codec (MPEG-2 4:2:2) at bit rates up to 50 Mbps. The camcorder is equipped with a newly developed Canon 10x HD video lens that provides a 35mm-equivalent zoom range of of 30.4 to 304mm.
However, from many users reflection and the official website, we know MXF format footage are not supported well by FCPX. So if you don’t know recommended file formats supported by FCPX, the transfer work will turn useless. What are the best editable formats for FCPX? In fact, Apple ProRes can be the highly recommended here. So, you need to transcode Canon XF105 to ProRes for FCPX by a third-party software. It isn’t as difficult as you imagine to convert Canon XF105 files to ProRes MOV on Mac even on Windows, if you have downloaded and installed Acrok MXF Converter.
